Ukraine War Threatens to Create Global Food Crisis
A global food/hunger crisis is just one of the many pitfalls of the war in Ukraine. The country, long known as Europe’s Bread Basket, is now dealing with massive hunger crisis and a destabilized agriculture sector that could lead to a global food crisis. Ukraine and Russia account for a quarter of global grains trade and the war will severely impact production and trade. The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that food prices could surge by as much as 20 percent, a significant spike that could exacerbate global food insecurity. Nearly 283 million people in 81 countries currently face acute food insecurity or are at high risk, according to the World Food Program, with 45 million on the brink of famine.”

The latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) paints a troubling picture: Climate change is already impacting every corner of the world, and much more severe impacts are in store if we fail to halve greenhouse gas emissions this decade and immediately scale up adaptation.

As a company that has worked in Ukraine, The Bassiouni Group denounces the war in Ukraine and we unequivocally condemn the violation of international law and order.
The unprovoked Russian military invasion in Ukraine is in direct opposition to the values that are core to our organization. Left unresolved, it will lead to further loss of life, suffering and devastation across Ukraine, Eastern Europe and Europe.
We stand with the Ukrainian people and we call for an immediate end to all armed hostilities. We call for extended opening of humanitarian corridors and we also call for an extended ceasefire to enable safe evacuation and peace talks.
