TBG Welcomes the Summer/2021 Internship Team

We are now celebrating the 10th anniversary of The Bassiouni Group’s Internship Program and we are excited to introduce you to our Summer/2021 Internship Team from Columbia University/SIPA:

  • Luna Xu — MPA  2022 (Energy & Environment Policy Concentration)
  • Abdulaziz Alhumud — MIA 2022 (International Finance & Economic Policy Concentration)
  • Xiaoming Zhong — MIA 2022 (Economic & Political Development Concentration)
  • Sindi Mafico — MPA 2022 (Social Impact, Investment and Innovation)

This talented group of graduate students from will be assisting TBG with client work, project-related tasks, business development, and research & analysis. They will participate in a variety of International Development, Business Consulting and Investment initiatives ranging from Cleantech & ESG, Global Public Health and Climate Resilience Management/Disaster Risk Reduction to to Advanced Materials, Infrastructure Development and Manufacturing. Luna is currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration (Class of 2022) at Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), concentrating on Energy and Environment. She has earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2014.

During the school year, Luna has undertaken projects with the ESG Practice team at Silver Leaf Partners, a fund advisory services provider in New York; and ReNew Power, an India-based renewable energy developer. Prior to SIPA, Luna has worked in a social and environmental impact venture capital fund, specializing in deal sourcing and analysis on cleantech and energy storage projects, and cross-border expansion advisory services. Her personal areas of interest include sustainable finance, energy and environment, and achieving Sustainable Development Goals through innovation and business solutions. Luna is fluent in English and Chinese.















Abdulaziz is currently studying at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. He will earn his Master of International Affairs degree in 2022, concentrating on International Finance and Economic Policy with a specialization in Management.

Abdulaziz earned his bachelor’s degree from King Saud University in Riyadh, majoring in Industrial Engineering. After that, he joined PriceWaterhouseCoopers as a consultant and worked on several projects related to KSA Vision 2030. Most of his work experiences focused on project management consulting and strategy implementation. He is interested in public-private partnerships to achieve economic development and growth. He is fluent in Arabic and enjoys reading and investing. He is eager to learn more about financial markets and sustainable development goals.




Sindi Mafico is currently pursuing a Masters in Public Administration at NYU Wagner with a
specialization in Social Impact, Investment and Innovation. Sindi has lived in 5 countries over the
course of her life, and considers herself to be a global citizen with a passion for developing a
more equitable world through Social Entrepreneurship.

As a Tech enthusiast, Sindi works at the NYC Media Lab where she is responsible for promoting
events related to emerging tech featuring technologists, media professionals and academic
thought leaders. In addition, Sindi is currently serving as the managing editor of the NYU
Wagner Review. Her responsibilities include publishing original research from students related to
Public Policy, International Affairs and Social Impact initiatives. Sindi is looking forward to learning
more about TBG’s approach to delivering solutions for the public and private sector through
innovation and impact.



















Xiaoming is currently pursuing a Masters of International Affairs degree (MIA, Class of 2022) at Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). She spent her first year of master’s study at Sciences Po Paris, concentrating in International Development and Global Economy. Xiaoming obtained a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons) degree from the University of Hong Kong, where she majored in Political Sciences and Public Administration.

Prior to TBG, Xiaoming interned for the Asian Development Bank, the Paulson Institute Green Finance Center, ReNew Power, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), gaining hands-on experience in project management, climate financing, monitoring and evaluation. Her personal areas of interest include energy and environment, ESG investment, impact investing, and the role of the private sector in achieving Sustainable Development Goals. Xiaoming is fluent in English and Chinese and proficient in French.
