Abha Parekh

I was born and brought up in Mumbai, India. I completed my undergraduate degree in 2010 at Pomona College, California, in International Relations. After I graduated, I moved to New York to work at Freedom House for one year, where I researched internet and press freedom around the world. In the summer of 2011, I moved back to Mumbai, to work with a think tank on issues of urban development. My interest in international affairs began to evolve into a passion for public policy and economic development, and I decided to pursue my Master’s degree to get a more refined understanding of the field. I began my Master of International Affairs degree at Columbia University (SIPA) in the fall of 2012, with a concentration in Economic and Political Development and a specialization in Conflict Resolution. My experiences have taken me from India to Kosovo to Tanzania, thus broadening my horizons and stoking my passion for pursuing a career in international development. I hope to gain valuable experience in development consulting, project management and evaluation through this internship at the Bassiouni Group.

Nick Stellitano

I am currently a student at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government pursuing a Masters in Public Administration and International Development.  For the past 11 years I have been an Officer and Pilot in the United States Marine Corps.  I have been stationed throughout the United States and have deployed around the world twice.  My time in the Marine Corps has given me a great perspective on the challenges of International Development and how important the dynamic relationship between the public and private sector (along with the military) is.  I have enjoyed the academic environment over the past year but I am excited about getting exposure to real world problems and helping develop sound solutions.

Yutian Wang

I grew up in China and am currently a 1st year graduate student in School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University. I am in the program of Master of Public Administration, concentrating in Urban and Social Policy. I have internship experiences in government, nonprofit organizations, and private companies, from which I experienced different working environments and got interested in the collaboration between public and private sectors. I am also passionate about poverty elimination and sustainable development, especially in emerging markets. By joining TBG, I believe I can apply the theoretical knowledge into practice, and contribute my efforts and skills into various projects. I am a big fan of data, and have kept improving my quantitative skills. I earned Bachelor of Management in Central University of Finance and Economics in Beijing, China, and I am fluent in English and Mandarin.

Marijke Schouten

I’m from Portland, OR and I have always been interested in international events and travel.  I was an exchange student to Japan and France during high school, and I took a gap year before college and lived with a family near Frankfurt, Germany where I became fluent in German. I studied industrial and labor relations at Cornell University. After graduation, I joined GIZ (German Federal Enterprise for International Cooperation) where I worked on behalf of the German government in Jakarta, Indonesia for several years on social protection. I worked primarily on the expansion of the cash transfer program from a pilot program to a national one. I started my masters in international affairs at Columbia last year, studying economic and political development with a focus on East and Southeast Asia. I hope to work in international human capital development in the future.

Laetitia Diatezua

I was born in Namur, Belgium parents from the Democratic Republic of Congo and brought up in the United States of America. I obtained my biology undergraduate degree at the University of Southern California in 2013, where I participated in global health case competitions and Model United Nations. After graduating, I joined Yellitaare/Africa Empowerment, assisting in developing a preventative reproductive health program in five West African countries. I specialized in research and project management. Simultaneously I interned with the Sovereign Order of Malta where I assisted in the pre-production of a charity benefitting the Chabrouh Al-Fadi mental health camp in Lebanon. I hope to work in International Development, focusing on global healthcare in the developing world. I look forward to working with Bassiouni Group and learning through them.
